the new brand

When we began there was just Mike, Stuart and a computer. In just six years we're ranked a top 3 digital design agency with 35 people. Things have moved very quickly and at the start of 2003 we realised that our identity did not accurately reflect the type of agency we'd become.

Okay, we had the same outlook on life, the same drive and enthusiam we had from day one but we needed to take a step back and had a good long look at ourselves.

We got the whole team together and talked for hours about who we were, what was great (and not so great about us) and how and why we'd found ourselves where we were.

More importantly we spent two months talking to over 100 existing clients, new clients, old clients and even prospective clients about what they thought of us - no holds barred!

The results were pretty amazing. What became clear very quickly was that at E3 our people are our biggest asset. Time and time again we heard from clients things like, “it's not necessarily what you do, but the way you guys do it”, “you make me feel that you're an extension of my own team”, “we like the what you see is what you get approach”, “I can't tell you how easy E3 made this project”.

All heart warming stuff and reinforced why we all get out of bed on a morning. So, we threw the challenge open to a number of branding agencies to help us interpret this feedback and use it as the lifeblood of our new brand.

The agency that fitted the bill prefectly was a Bristol based agency called Home. A month or so later Home presented 3 possible routes. But one route in all of our opinions literally had E3 written all over it. We got very excited. It really got to grips and embraced the feedback we received from our clients.

It was all about our people.

The big idea was that the identity is created and evolved by the people within E3 itself, so it is forever fluid and personal.

Here's how it works:- each person within the company gets a ream of beautifully printed and typographically elegant letterheads and a roll of bright red, unique E3 stickers. These labels are individualised by each staff member, who scribble E3 in their handwriting on the sticker. This sticker is then placed on the letterhead wherever the individual sees fit, thus making each staff member part of this ever-growing and evolving business. The same too with the business cards and compliments slips.

So our new brand makes perfect sense to us. It lets the people who helped E3 evolve into the company we are today make their mark on our new brand and in turn help us take E3 to the next level.

It's that simple.
