The Royal Navy website, supported by digital partner e3, has won the Sitecore Site of the Year People’s Choice Award 2012. As a brand new category in 2012, the Sitecore People’s Choice Award asks the public to vote through Facebook for the most popular site built on Sitecore. Royal Navy won with 1,584 votes – a 39.5% share of the public vote. 

The Royal Navy’s single corporate website plays a key role in educating, informing and influencing employees, families and retirees, as well as acting as a public face for the Royal Navy, to increase understanding and raise the positive image of the organisation.  The website also supports the Royal Navy’s recruitment drive to attract 3,000 new recruits each year.

Further functionality was needed to bring the organisation’s activities to life through its digital presence, including on-going online support around marketing activities, the creation of new templates; the ability to efficiently publish content and manage social media channels, as well as provide a safe online environment for family support communication.

Sitecore provided a total Web Management solution that has allowed the Royal Navy, as a large and diverse organisation with various target audiences, to create and manage dynamic and engaging content, with the flexibility to develop bespoke online solutions and Sitecore approved forum/chat solutions. The site is now rich and engaging, with future plans including personalisation for users.
